Often I go to Hong Kong to run errands and see a doctor or two. If you live in Macau, that concept should be familiar. Occasionally, when I am lucky, it turns into a short staycation. Most recently, I stayed in Soho nearby this lovely gem, Grassroots Pantry, that provides healthy eats.
Immediately I noticed that mastermind, Peggy Chan, chef & owner, hasn’t missed a beat pleasing both palate and senses. She has carried through her brand down to every last detail including the (fresh) mint & lemon flavoured water.
Grassroots Pantry has the sweetest/ daintiest, Earth Friendly cloth napkins which are, in all likelihood, made from recycled material(s) that I have even touched.
Further, to add to the very comfortable and inviting theme, Grassroots Pantry had the foresight to provide wooden knives to taste the Chef’s offering an amazing Cashew Butter with oat crackers. (Although I love food, food not my thing. Design & Decor are my thing...)
The rustic orange & weathered grey color scheme, is fresh like the food.
Utensils adorn the reclaimed wood walls in a creative and FUN touch - a constant reminder to the onlooker that The Grassroots Pantry cares about food, in particular because the utensils are so accessible: home cooking!
Situating the Kitchen upstairs provided the designers ample space to squeeze in as many tables as comfortable. And I repeat, Grassroots Pantry is VERY comfortable! Too boot, the staff is quite polite. They inquired "Is he alright?" when my son spilled my glass of wine all over the table and glass balustrade! <insert sigh> ...kids. Then the server even refilled my glass at no charge!? :)
The coffee bar is very functional with a few barstools, as you can imagine from this picture below.
You'll note that, when in the hood, they are open for breakfast, 7:30am weekdays & 9am on the weekends. Hollywood Road is a very pedestrian and friendly place stroll so it’s easy to stop by for a fair trade cup-of-joe.
I know because the food was so good and the atmosphere so pleasant that we went back for BREAKFAST! You can see that we were there so early that they hadn’t even had a chance to turn the light on behind the signage.
Grassroot's motto is "to make food do good"! What a nice message is that???
Guess we all know where you will be going next to feed your belly when in Hong Kong. It's a must stop! Reservations are made easy here.
